Compass
Compass - Inktober Day Sixteen, 2021
No direction found on the map. They had to follow the instructions of the people of the last village they saw 72 hours ago. Constant traveling by taking shifts of driving and resting, they finally saw something. They stopped their boat on the riverside and started walking towards what looked like a huge wall.
They were informed that the natural compass they were looking for would be on the ground. But never did they imagine it would be vertically placed like a wall.
The incredible monument was breathtaking. The sun, the clear sky with few clouds and the trees sparsely populating the area, everything together was just beautiful.
None of the scenic treats of the sore eye helped clear the confusion. Why on earth would the compass be built vertical? If, as the rumours suggest, it is a natural occurrence, then was it supposed to fall down? And if it says North is upwards, does that mean the arrow is pointing upwards forever?
No one could think of an explanation.
Then a thought scared them a little bit. If the North is the sky, how are we supposed to fly? And to where? There's nothing visible to the naked eye.
Suddenly that thought reminded one of the group member to bring the telescope they left in the boat. They now tried to see what's directly above the Compass. To their shock, an isle was floating in the air far far away in the sky.
How is this not news? How is this not a known fact? Why is this place empty? Are we the first ones to discover all of this?
They had so many questions, but no answers. They tried to explore the surrounding area, but to no avail. Now they tried taking a closer look at the Compass. Maybe if they tried observing it closely, they might find something.
Suddenly they woke up to a group of people fanning them. Was this all a dream? Someone said this is what happened with everyone who went there. They ended back in the village they last enquired about this place. So, there's no way to explore the place then?
Then it struck them. Nothing happened until they touch the monument. Rather, a particular part of the monument. Maybe if they keep doing this, they'll figure out the way?
It gave them hope. They were surprised that the boat was also in the village, intact.
They began the journey of what looked like eternity. But they were sure it was all worth it.
They finally found a sense of direction.
