Collide
Collide - Inktober Day Seventeen, 2021
When things are out of control, we have to either accept it or ignore it if we can. But what if it is a cosmic phenomenon? How can one cope with something that happens on a scale we are not able to fathom? How can someone stop a massive meteorite collision?
People were evacuated out of the entire continent and from small locations nearby, to other continents. The meteorite was so huge, according to the readings of their primitive machines, that they were sure it was some malfunction. No way something this big can even travel this fast. At least with the knowledge they have so far. But just in case, they evacuated people to different continents away from the estimated collision point.
Some people tried warning about this few days ago. They were the members of the secret groups that protect Earth from mystic and magical threats. But no one believed them for obvious reasons. There was no evidence that they can do things beyond everyone's imagination. They didn't want to prove either. When the time comes, they will use their powers for good. It is not for showing off or to prove something to anyone. Now when the time has arrived, their power to see the future was the first line of defense.
What they held back though, was the fact that this was not a coincidence or a natural phenomenon. This was controlled by a person. A human. Now who on Earth would believe that?
And how helpless will an average human feel when they find out? The thought of stopping a natural cosmic occurrence is mind blowing, but stopping a human who can control galactic events? One must be out of their mind to believe this. Or they have to be part of the secret magic groups. According to some, what's the difference? Well, now they're beginning to believe... that there's a difference. They are now willing to listen to the Magic groups.
This human was flying in space while controlling this meteorite. He didn't want to get any kind of recoil from this collision, and now he's hiding in a base he setup on the Moon.
They were planning to go to the Moon. The mere mortals couldn't comprehend the fact that these superhumans can do so many things, and fly, and travel through space and time. Why didn't they help advance science and technology? Why didn't they teach... magic... to everyone?
How does one even try understand that someone can summon a meteorite at will? Make planets collide? Even if anyone tries, how long will it take us to understand the repercussions of these acts or the acts themselves? There were so many questions, so many things to sort out, and the void in humanity's collective will and psyche was as big as the meteorite itself.
While they were not even done understanding what was happening, they saw the Moon coming closer.
